Iran Suspends Nuclear Talks Until Israeli Attacks Ceas
Iran Rules Out New Nuclear Talks Until Attacks Stop
As of 11:01 AM PKT on June 21, 2025, Iran has declared a suspension of nuclear negotiations with the United States and other parties until Israeli military attacks on its soil stop. This stance follows a surge in tensions triggered by Israel's airstrikes, which began on June 13, 2025, targeting Iranian nuclear and military sites, including missile storage facilities and research centers. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has stressed that diplomatic engagement is on hold amid the ongoing aggression, asserting Iran’s right to self-defense.
The escalation stems from Israel's "Operation Rising Lion," aimed at disrupting Iran’s alleged nuclear weapons program. Iran maintains its nuclear activities are solely for peaceful purposes and has responded with missile and drone counterattacks, leading to reported casualties of at least 639 in Iran and 24 in Israel—figures yet to be independently confirmed.
The United States, led by President Donald Trump, has issued a two-week ultimatum to Iran, hinting at potential U.S. airstrikes while expressing a preference for diplomacy. However, Trump’s administration has shown hesitation in urging Israel to pause its operations, hindering de-escalation efforts. European mediators from the UK, France, and Germany have called for a ceasefire during talks in Geneva, but progress remains stalled.
Iran’s position underscores its frustration with what it considers illegal attacks, a view echoed by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which has cautioned about the risks of radioactive fallout from strikes on nuclear sites. Meanwhile, Israel’s UN ambassador has justified the strikes, claiming Iran poses a "genocidal threat."
