Hyundai Rotem Unveils Concept for Next-Gen K3 Tank to Replace K2 Black Panther
Hyundai Rotem has revealed a conceptual design for the K3, a next-generation tank poised to replace the K2 Black Panther, widely regarded as one of the world’s most advanced tanks, rivaling Germany’s Leopard 2A7+. The concept image, while not a final product, suggests the tank has completed its design phase. Key features include:
Upgraded Firepower: The K3 is expected to feature a 130mm smoothbore gun, an upgrade from the K2’s 120mm, capable of firing more powerful ammunition. A remote-controlled weapon station (RCWS) equipped with a gun for engaging ground and aerial targets, potentially including an electromagnetic gun for countering drones, enhances its versatility.
Crewless Turret: The tank employs a crewless turret, reducing the crew to two members stationed in the hull, each with independent panoramic sights for improved situational awareness.
Advanced Armor and Protection: The K3 boasts upgraded armor for superior battlefield protection, alongside both soft-kill and hard-kill active protection systems to counter incoming threats.
Automation and Targeting: The tank is designed for day and night operations, with automated ammunition loading and the ability to autonomously track and engage multiple targets sequentially.
Hybrid Powertrain: Unlike the K2’s traditional diesel engine, the K3 will use a hybrid powertrain combining diesel and hydrogen, offering enhanced efficiency and power. It will also support next-generation anti-personnel and anti-armor ammunition.
